Abstract/Contents:Summarizes a test conducted during 1981 in New Zealand to determine whether constant mulching could "be a good thing for a lawn." States that "there were two mowers in our test, the 3.5h.p. [horsepower] Bolens marketed by Gardenware Products Limited, Auckland, [New Zealand]...and the Morrison Multicut, put out by Morrison Industries Limited, Hastings, [New Zealand]." Notes that trials were conducted by the Department of Horticulture, Landscapes and Parks of Lincoln College and by the Grasslands Division Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at Palmerston North, New Zealand. Details materials and methods used during the test. Reports that "the foot pedal of the Morrison was a bit vague and clumsy, while the separate-wheel adjustment required by the Bolens was a real drag to use." Concludes that while "there is a place for a mulching mower on coarse, stalky swards or in an area like an orchard where final appearance is not all that important, we cannot recommend either of these machines for normal lawn use."
