Abstract/Contents: | Presents a letter from William M. Dest, associate professor emeritus at the University of Connecticut, discussing whether wear and soil compaction on athletic fields is due to player traffic or an unknown cause. States that the difference in bulk density between sidelines and heavily trafficked areas of fields is small, suggesting that "wear is playing a major role in the increase [seen] in bulk density because of loss of channels as a result of loss of vegetation." |
