Abstract/Contents:Describes the symptoms and soil conditions of ophiobolus patch, "a disease of turfgrasses caused by the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis." Reports that "ophiobolus patches start as a yellowing to bronzing of leaves, which later die and turn brown." Highlights fungicides, nutrition, and biological factors related to the disease, noting that "the disease often occurs on greens established after soil fumigation." Briefly summarizes a study conducted in May of 1980, stating that "experimental mini-sandgreens, and soil greens, sown with Agrostis tenuis cultivar Bardot, were established at Grasslands Division [Department of Scientific and Industrial Research]." Details methods, materials, and results of the study. Emphasizes the susceptibility of several turfgrasses to G. graminis. Mentions appearances of G. graminis and P. radicicola in permanent pastures in New Zealand. Briefly presents a study in which "several G. graminis and P. radicicola isolates were tested...for susceptibility to the fungicides Benlate and Bayleton. Complete suppression of growth of all isolates was obtained when 0.01g/litre [grams per liter] (10 mg/ml [milligrams per milliliter]) of the active ingredients of either fungicide was added to nutrient agar."
