Abstract/Contents:"Adding trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to the potting medium of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris "Penneagle") reduced the number of epicuticular wax structures deposited on the leaves that emerged from the whorl. The degree of reduction depended on the temperature at which the plants were grown, being greater at 25 C than at 22 C. At 25 C wax platelets on untreated leaves were larger in size and less in number than on 22 C grown leaves. The number of "buggy-whips" (plants that had the emerging leaf tip trapped in the leaf sheath) increased on TCA-treated plants. Naturally occurring waxless areas are also described."
