Abstract/Contents:"Insecticides were evaluated for control of Southern Masked Chafer (SMC) grubs on a Kentucky bluegrass rough at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska. The turf (100% Kentucky bluegrass) was maintained at a height of 2.5 inch. Thatch accumulation (finger compressed) in the plot area was 0.125 inch. Field conditions at the site were: soil type, Wymore silty clay loam; soil organic matter, 3-5%; soil pH, 6.2-6.6; water pH, 7.0. Environmental conditions at the time of treatment were as follows: soil moisture 10.8%, air temperature 86 °F, soil temperature 84°F, relative humidity 64%, wind velocity 4 mph. Plots were 5 Œ 5 ft and the experimental design was an RCB with five replications. Treatments were applied on 4 Aug 2008. Granule insecticides were applied using a hand shaker. Post-treatment irrigation was 0.25 inch. A total of 4.3 inch of rain accumulated during the post-treatment period. Formulations were evaluated 38 DAT (11 Sep) by removing from each plot three 8-inch diam turf-soil cores (1.05 ft2 total area) to a depth of 3 inch and counting the number of surviving grubs. All treatments provided statistically significant reductions in southern masked chafer grubs when compared to the untreated control. Dylox 6.2G provided acceptable (>80%) white grub control. At 38 DAT and 74 DAT, the turf quality remained in good to excellent condition compared to the untreated check. No phytotoxicity was observed."
