Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential importance of timing in core cultivation. Explains that "traditional coring times in the Northeast Region have been between late April and early/mid-May and between August and early September each year." States that "in an attempt to minimize golfer complaints, some facilities are choosing non-traditional dates in October, November, December, March, and early/mid-August for coring their greens." Lists the possible risks involved when coring at non-traditional times, including "turf injury from coring in stressful weather", "an extended recovery time from coring when the turf is not actively growing", "an increased likelihood for annual-type Poa annua invasion", and "desiccation injury." |
