Abstract/Contents:Discusses studies regarding the use of entomogenous nematodes for controlling grubs on golf courses. Suggests that nematodes "may offer a biological control alternative to conventional insecticides when applied in an inundative release program." Details the procedure and materials involved with a study conducted in 1991 with funds from the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program and the New York State turfgrass industry. Highlights the potential importance of considering two questions, which include "whether entomogenous nematodes reduce grub populations below standard action thresholds" and "whether there is increased grub mortality with increased application rates of nematodes." Concludes that "only the recommended rate reduced grub populations below economic thresholds," and that "nematode applications should be coupled with grub mapping to reduce application costs."
