| Abstract/Contents: | "Tall fescue has not been generally recommended for turfgarss useage in the Northeast although it has been a common ingredient in cheap seed mixtures for years. The few available varieties have been coarse, clumpy and intolerant of northern winters. In recent years plant breeders have been striving to develop finer-textured, more winter-hardy cultivars. This study includes thirty cultivars, some commercially available and others experimental. The grass does have attributes and is widely used in area of the United States. We are trying to determine whether some of the newer cultivars might have value in New England." |
