Abstract/Contents: | "The influence of root zone temperature on the energy relations of Baron Kentucky bluegrass turf is being investigated. By means of cooling tubes the soil of a 288 sq. ft. areas of sod is being maintained approximately 10°F cooler than the surrounding area. Grass growing at several fertility levels under these two soil temperatures is being monitored for net photosynthetic rates, photosynthate translocation to roots, and root content of primary nitrogen metabolites and carbohydrates. Correlations between turf injury under high temperature and metabolic changes in roots will be developed." |
