| Abstract/Contents: | "A major project at the station deals with post-harvest handling of cultivated sod. Studies are in progress relating to sod heating in transit and storage, with cold storage being investigated as a possible alternative. The establishment of sod in shaded locations is a problem due to poor rooting of the sod to underlying soil. Under observation are the shade levels which can be tolerated at various times during the growing season, and the rooting capability of several shade tolerant varieties of bluegrass and fescue. Another study involves the measurement of soil removal at sod harvest and the organic matter return from unharvested plant parts." |
