Abstract/Contents:"In December, 1967, soil warming cables were installed in three main blocks to provide heating densities of 5,10, and 15 watts per square foot. The cables are spaced 12 inches apart at a depth of 6 inches. During the heating operation in the winter, soil temperatures are controlled by thermostats which regulate the power input. Control panels and temperature recording instruments are located in the field house. Many different studies have been performed on the area during the past four winters. They include studies with various temperatures, turf covers, fertility levels, sod rooting and winter seeding."
