Abstract/Contents: | "A. 1971 Preemergent Crabgrass Control Evaluations: New and standard chemicals are being evaluated for preemergent crabgrass control in lawn-type turf. Standard materials are providing good control. Of the several new materials being tested A-820, GS-13638, NC-5651, RP-17623, and S-14786 appear promising. Results with DS-5328, IMC-3950, and O-13930 appear to have some limitations. B. 1969-71 Preemergent Broadleaf Weed Control Studies: Standard herbicides are being evaluated as preemergent treatments to prevent the establishment of dandelion, plantain, chickweed, spurge, and carpetweed in established turf. There is some evidence that plantain is controlled by Dacthal, Zytron, Tordon, Planavin, Typersan and Tri-Ca-arsenate. Some spurge control by Dacthal and Sesone Zytron and Tupersan. There has been an increase in bluegrass and decrease in fescue in plots treated with Bandane, Dacthal, Zytron, and tri-Ca-arsenate. Turf injury has been very noticeable with two yearly applications of Plantain and Azak. C. 1971 Study and Preemergent Broadleaf Weed Control: Standard and new chemicals are being evaluated to prevent the establishment of white clover, broadleaf plantain carpetweed, mouseear chickweed, and dandelion. Some injury to the turf, especially fescue, has been observed in plots treated with Dacthal, Balan, DS-5328, GS-13638, IMC-3950, O-13930, RP-17623, and S-14786. Weed control data will be available during the stop on the program." |
