Abstract/Contents:"How much Kentucky bluegrass, red fescue, or bentgrass would you have after five years if you choose either of two cutting heights and three fertility levels? Established in June, 1967, this study compares 20 commercial and experimental lawn grasses alone and in various mixtures. Tentative results indicate that Kentucky bluegrass is more competitive under the higher mowing height (1 1/4") while bentgrass is more competitive under the lower cutting height (3/4"). In a seed mixture Kentucky bluegrass is more likely to attain a complete stand under high (6 lbs. N/1000 per year) while the opposite is true for red fescues. More weeds especially poa annua were able to invade an area while maintained under a low mowing height. Virtually no poa annua was found under the high mowing height. There were only two red fescues seeded singly in this trial. Only Jamestown remains in a appreciable amount in any of the treatments."
