Abstract/Contents:"Velvet bentgrass greens are to be found occasionally throughout the Northeast. Many of them date back to the old south German mixed bent seed to which they were seeded. Others have been established vegetatively or with seed of varying quality. Only in recent years, with the release ofthe Kingstown variety, has quality seed of an improved velvet bentgrass been available. Turf researchers at this station have worked with velvet bentgrass for many years and continue to believe it has much greater potential than is generally believed. It has been obvious that the management requirements of this grass differ greatly from that of creeping bentgrass. In an effort to gain additional knowledge relating to fertilization and soil topdressing this study was started in 1967. Treatments were started in 1969 and data has been recorded monthly since 1970. The study is very young. Data will be collected for the next few years in an effort to learn still mroe about the management of this fine grass."
