| Abstract/Contents: | "Colonial bentgrass has essentially been abandoned as a lawn grass species. Problems of management, use of poor varieties and improved bluegrasses have dictated this. With the advent of improved varieties of Colonial bentgrass, such as "Exeter" and the availability of efficient maintenance equipment it seemed appropriate to initiate management studies that might again permit the use of this species for general turf use. Of all grasses used for turf in New England, Colonial bentgrass is perhaps the most adapted to native soil and climatic conditions. The grass was seeded in the spring of 1966 and treatment variables - mower type, fertilization, cultivation - were initiated in the spring of 1968. No data have been collected to this time. It is planned to continue the study for 3 or 4 years before evaluating the results." |
