Abstract/Contents:Profiles Dan Potter, the 2010 recipient of the USGA (United States Golf Association) Green Section Award. Describes Potter's childhood, his early interest in nature, and his early career in entomology. Mentions that Potter "graduated from Cornell University in 1974 and earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1978. He has been a faculty member in the Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky since 1979 and was promoted to the rank of full Professor in 1989." States that Potter has received Distinguished Achievement Awards in Urban Entomology, Horticultural Entomology, and Teaching from the Entomological Society of America (ESA), as well as Research, Teaching and Service to Graduate Students Awards from the University of Kentucky. Reports that he has presented "hundreds of invited educational lectures for industry professionals, and has been a keynote speaker for entomology at international turfgrass conferences throughout the world." Explains that "the USGA's annual Green Section Award recognizes individuals for their distinguished service to the game of golf through work with turfgrass, noting that "[Potter's] research program supports and provides leadership for safe, environmentally responsible pest management for a variety of locales, including golf courses."
