Abstract/Contents:"Mowing is the most important management practice in the maintenance of turfgrasses. This management technique has consequences on plant function and on turfgrass quality. In order to improve these management practices, it is important to study individual plant response to defoliation. We developed a virtual plant model based on a structure-function approach (Verdenal et al., 2008). We proposed to use this model to analyze the interaction between defoliation and light interception by focusing on the height of the defoliation. The basis on which the effects of mowing are evaluated is the emergence of the tip of the growing leaf from the sheath. The model simulates mowing by using the plant height, the frequency and the duration of the cycle of cuttings."
