Abstract/Contents:"Trinexapac-ethyl has been recently used for many different reasons in the management of amenity turfgrasses. Trials have shown, among other effects, an increase in turf colour, and a reduction in growth rate and leaf area as a consequence of trinexapac-ethyl application (Ervin and Koski, 2001; Heckman et al., 2001). It is widely demonstrated that turf colour is positively related to the chlorophyll content. Applications of iron and magnesium have been shown to enhance the chlorophyll content of turfgrass plants (Stiegler et al., 2003). Applications of trinexapac-ethyl have also been shown to enhance chlorophyll content in turfgrass plants (Heckman, 2001; McCann and Huang, 2007). It was hypothesized that applying nitrogen and trace elements in combination with trinexapac-ethyl may further enhance chlorophyll content. Therefore, the aim of this work was to determine the effect of nitrogen (a 3% or 10% nitrogen fertilizer); manganese, magnesium and iron (high or low rate of application) and trinexapac-ethyl on turfgrass colour, turfgrass quality, nutrient content and chlorophyll content of the leaf tissue."
