Abstract/Contents:"Worldwide the usage of effluent and poor quality water for irrigation of turfgrass has increased. Knowledge of the effect this water has on the germination and growth of different species and cultivars is crucial in helping choose the appropriate species for a site. Germination studies were done using artificial sea salts, to replicate the type of salts seen in many water tests. Individual tests were done comparing cultivars in many turf species, but the salt levels at which germination decreased for each species also allows for cross species comparisons. The rate of germination was also observed. The number of days to first germination was increased as salt levels increased. Comparisons can be made between the salt levels necessary to reduce germination, the salt levels reported in the literature to influence turf growth and salt levels in effluent water."
