Abstract/Contents:"Weed control during turfgrass establishment is critical. Cultural practices to promote turfgrass establishment from seed can also promote the germination of annual grassy weeds such as smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum) and goosegrass (Eleusine indica). Mesotrione is a triketone herbicide registered in the United States for the control of several grassy weeds in coolseason turfgrass (Anonymous, 2008); however, data evaluating mesotrione for weed management during the establishment of cool-season turfgrasses are limited. The objective of this research was to evaluate the efficacy of mesotrione for control of smooth crabgrass and goosegrass during the establishment of two cool-season turf species in spring and summer."
