Abstract/Contents:"Deschampsia caespitosa L. Beauv. is not commonly found in seed mixtures for lawns. However, it is considered as a species with a high physiological plasticity, such as a high tolerance to different soil conditions (pH, water logging), and an ability to adapt to different temperature regimes and solar radiations (Davy and Taylor, 1974). This species is also recommended for wet and shady areas because of its low solar radiation tolerance (Brilman and Watkins, 2003), where the majority of turfgrasses are suppressed by moss. D. caespitosa might have its place in amenity, recreational lawns with high wear intensity under reduced fertility or sunlight and with high mowing frequency. Three varieties from the Czech Republic and one Dutch varieties of D. caespitosa are currently available. Problems in establishing D. caespitosa may occur because of its susceptibility to drought during emergence and its lack of competition due to its bunch type growth habit. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the changes in stand composition of D. caespitosa in mixtures with Poa pratensis L. and Festuca rubra L. in a temperate climate zone over three years after establishment."
