Abstract/Contents:"A visually acceptable and wearable turf can only be assured by sufficient nitrogen fertilisation. However, fertiliser budgets of communities, football- and golf clubs can be significant. Moreover, there is increasing concerns about the carbon footprint of the manufacture and application of fertilisers. Clover is able to fix nitrogen from the air which can provide nitrogen for itself and the grasses. Normally white clover is seen as a weed, because it forms spots in a turf and it flowers intensively. For some years special bred cultivars of white clover with small leaves and low flowering ability (MicrocloverTM) in combination with turf grass cultivars have been recommended for turf grass mixtures. This combination reduces the need for nitrogen fertilisation offering an acceptable green and wearable sward at the same time (DLF 2009; Nonn 2006, 2009; STRI 2006). The aim of the paper is to evaluate the establishment of white clover and compare turf quality of Microclover with a turf grass mixture without clover. In addition mowing frequency and the vigour of Microclover were tested."
