| Abstract/Contents: | "Urban spaces are confronted with increasing problems caused by sealed surfaces e.g. groundwater renewal, microclimate, ecosystem destruction, flooding etc. In 2006, the Europe wide research project GREEN CONCRETE has been set up to contribute to a solution to these urgent issues by developing permeable and vegetated gravel turf paved parking areas. The objective of the GREEN CONCRETE consortium consisting of twelve European partners was to provide recommendations for the construction of gravel turf made of quality certified recycled construction material (concrete, brick) or natural gravel (lime stone gravel) based on interdisciplinary research. The Institute of Soil Bioengineering and Landscape Construction focused on the development of an indigenous seed blend consisting of grasses and herbs." |
