| Abstract/Contents: | "Municipal wastewater was applied to coastal bermudagrass on a Plummer sandy soil at the rate of 3.3 cm/week. Measurements were made of raw wastewater, holding pond, runoff, upstream and downstream to evaluate treatment efficiency and impact on the receiving stream. Total suspended solids, BOD and TKN in the raw wastewater averaged 120, 136 and 30.5 mg/L, respectively. Corresponding value in the field runoff were 5.6, 2.7 and 1.8 mg/L. Nitrate nitrogen averaged 0.1 mg/L in the field runoff. With the exception of phosporus [phosphorus], runoff did not show significant impact on the receiving stream. Maintenance mowing, with no crop removal, proved adequate for weed control and grass integrity." |
