Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential importance and ways of overseeding turf, stating that overseeding "should be considered integral to all good maintenance progammes [programs]." Details reasons to overseed such as "to maximise [maximize] sward density...wear tolerance, and playing quality [and] to retain or establish the ideal grasses for the sport being played." Provides recommendations regarding what seed mixtures would best benefit "heavy-duty turf situations [and] fine turf situations." Adds that "when choosing seed it is important to remember that overseeding is an investment...[and to] always try to buy the best seed you can afford and avoid cutting corners." Includes advise regarding the timing of the overseeding application, stressing that "appropriate timing of any overseeding operation is vital for success." Explains the potential importance of the sowing rate, suggesting that when sowing "it is also important to remember that the proportion of grass species within the mix is by volume and not a ratio of the number of seeds for each species." Addresses possible techniques to employ prior to overseeding to maximize success and includes the use and result of Primo Maxx in an overseeding trial. Indicates that "following seeding it is essential to consider maintenance that favours [favors] the development of the seedlings" and briefly provide recommendations regarding maintenance practices. Concludes that "overseeding can be difficult to get right but giving careful thought and consideration to the operation from the outset will help to optimise success rate." |
