Abstract/Contents: | Addresses how advances in golf equipment impact the playing quality of players, stating that "in more recent years the prodigious distances achieved by the professional golfer can be attributed as much to conditioning and fitness as the significant advances in golf equipment." Details the impact technological advancements have on golf course fields, explaining that "most of our existing courses have been stretched to their limits so there is little or no room to eke out more yardage." Presents ways to increase playing difficulty and suggests "to increase the extent of rough and narrow down fairways...[and] to reduce landing area width and define a narrower landing area." Indicates the possibility of standardizing golf courses and limiting the ball quality for certain golfers as other ways to increase difficulty. Concludes that "limits must be set on the golf ball, otherwise the game is likely to become unsustainable." |
