Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers University to evaluate fine fescue cultivars in various quality trials. Details the procedures used in the study, stating that "[sample] plots were replicated at least three times and the tests were placed in a randomized block design...Tests were maintained for breeding purposes and evaluation of germplasm under different conditions rather than for optimum performance." Reports that "the hard fescues generally performed better than the other fine fescue species in all three trials, especially in the lower maintenance tests," followed by the chewings fescues, with the creeping red fescues receiving the lowest rankings. Concludes that "the natural strengths of the fine fescues...make them a logical choice for breeders seeking to produce a high quality turfgrass for the future."
