Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to determine "the effect of temperature on the translocation of foliar applied nutrients and herbicides." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "these studies were conducted in controlled environment chambers...Temperature control was maintained in the environment chambers by an air conditioner cooling against the heat from the lights." Also mentions that "to assay for activity the plants were cut off at the soil surface, sectioned directly into planchets, and dried in an oven." Reports that "using the reduction in dry weight as an indication of herbicidal activity, there was a significant reduction in dry weight with an increase in temperature." Concludes that "the greater movement of arsenic applied as DMA [disodium methyl arsenate] at higher temperatures may be partially responsible for the more rapid response of crabgrass to DMA at higher temperatures."
