| Abstract/Contents: | "Crabgrass (Digitaria spp.) control by different herbicides in field experiments varied from 84 to 100%. These extremes were not significantly different. Greenhouse studies showed that increased moisture content in soils may increase the growth rate of crabgrass seedlings so that they may escape herbicidal injury. Effects of herbicides on root stunting were similar in both dry and wet soils, indicating immobility of the herbicides under these experimental conditions. Competition between mature bluegrass plants and crabgrass seedlings was an important determinant of effective crabgrass control with preemergence herbicides." |
