| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted by Colorado State University and the United States Golf Association to breed "new cultivars with improved turf performance, of four western grass species" including alkaligrass, blue grama, inland saltgrass, and fairway wheatgrass. Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that plant collections from various states and countries were evaluated for performance and rhizome growth and then bred in a nursery environment. Reports that seed production in alkaligrass and blue grama was successful, but notes sterility in fairway wheatgrass collections due to injury and need for "improved germination and seedling vigor" in inland saltgrass collections. Mentions future research plans, stating that, "in 1988 we will test the first generation plant progenies for mode of reproduction."
