| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a brief report issued at the thirtieth Grass Breeder's Work Planning Conference in Sublimity, Oregon on a state-funded study conducted in Florida by Drs. Stan Schank and David Wofford "to evaluate...genotypes of tropical forage grasses, create additional genetic diversity through hybridization...[and] develop superior grass forage varieties by breeding." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "improved populations and cultivars of tall fescue [are being developed] utilizing traditional and biotechnological techniques" in a nursery environment. Reports that "tall fescue genotypes and polycross progenies [are] being evaluated for persistence, disease resistance, forage production, forage quality, and general agronomic performance." Concludes that "results from this study will serve as reference points for future breeding work on this species." |
