Abstract/Contents:Presents a report on research conducted "to utilize gynomonoecious mutants in which normally male florets have become female and seed bearing." Briefly mentions breeding methods employed in the study, explaining that clones were developed "through crosses with normal plants and subsequent selfing and backcrossing." Reports that "early results indicate that most progenies from gynomonoecious-by-PMK-24 crosses rank above PMK-24 [original 70 clone composite] in vigor and dry-matter productivity." Concludes that "it is hoped that a suitable gynomonoecious clone can be crossed as a seed parent with normal male composite in commercial seed production."
