Abstract/Contents: | Briefly reports on a study conducted by Texas A&M University to "[develop] superior ryegrass varieties with high forage yielding ability." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "the present ryegrass germplasm program involves selection for vigor...and winter hardiness." Reports that "a bulk labeled Tx-R-85-2...has very high yield potential...[and] has much improved winter hardiness." Concludes that "research efforts for aluminum tolerance under acid soil conditions will have an increased emphasis in the future. [Soil] acidity appears to be an increasing problem, particularly in low input agriculture as many forage programs have become." |
