| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses dormant bermudagrass weed control, highlighting chemical weed control with regard to foliage contact applications, foliage translocated applications, and soil applications. Identifies annual weeds that are potentially common in dormant bermudagrass. States that "a few, scattered weeds can best be controlled by pulling or knifing." Suggests the use of diquat or paraquat applications for situations in which weeds are more prevalent. Advises that 2,4-D should not be used "where they reach the roots or foliage of susceptible ornamentals or trees." Summarizes three soil-applied herbicide studies conducted in Arizona during the mid-1960s "to determine the effects of applications of herbicides to the soil in dormant turf on weeds and bermudagrass." Concludes that "the most promising herbicides for controlling annual weeds in dormant bermudagrass were DCPA [Dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate] and dichlobenil when both weed control and selectivity were considered." Provides tables detailing the effects of multiple herbicides on dormant turf during the studies. |
