| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted at Campbell Avenue Farm in Tucson, Arizona during 1968 to determine the effectiveness of three herbicides for the control of wild celery in bermudagrass. Details methods and materials used during the experiment, noting that "one lb/A [pound per acre] of 3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile (bromoxynil), 6 lb/A of monosodium acid methanearsonate (MSMA), and 1 lb/A of 2-(2,4,5-trichlorophenox) propionic acid (silvex) were applied in 40 gpa [gallons per acre] of water containing 1/2% [percent] of a blended surfactant." Reports that "silvex gave the slowest kill of wild celery and the least discoloration of bermudagrass...Silvex gave better control of both broadleaved weeds than did either bromoxynil or MSMA, but did not control crabgrass." Provides a table that illustrates the percent ground covered by several species on several dates in 1968. Concludes that bromoxynil and MSMA "can be used to control certain broadleaved weeds in bermudagrass turf." |
