Abstract/Contents:"The phytophagous scarab beetles are global common pests of turfgrass. The Cupreous chafer, Anomala cuprea is one of the major pests among other scarab beetles and causes serious damage to the turfgrass and pasture. Hence, for the development of best control program, establishment of mass rearing under laboratory conditions should enhance the experimentations. So, preliminary attempt was made on rearing the 1st and 2nd instar larvae of A. cuprea by using sixteen types of difference artificial diets in plastic cups under laboratory conditions at 25° C and 30° C. Among all tested diets, decomposed cow-dung, leaf mould and leaf mould plus CM cellulose plus sterilized soil were preferred by larvae but the other diets resulted in 100% larval mortality. Of these tree diets, both the 1st and 2nd instar larvae showed better growth, short duration and low mortality on decomposed cow-dung at 30° C rather than 25° C. Body weight of larvae was heavier at 30° C."
