| Abstract/Contents: | "The organic coating of nonwettable sand grains from localized dry spots on sand golf greens was extracted with 5% NaOH. An infrared spectrum of resin purified, freeze-dried extract was similar to spectra of soil fulvic acids. All other supporting data such as solubility, color, failure to precipitate upon acidification, noncrystalline nature, and a high extinction coefficient were consistent with the conclusion that the organic coating was fulvic acid. The relationship of the synthesis of fulvic acids to basidiomycete hyphae in the affected soil layer is discussed." |
