Abstract/Contents:Presents part two of a two-part article, "Becoming Green", which began in the July/August issue of Greenmaster. Focuses on CO2 levels, reporting that "golf courses usually create an environmental footprint which leaves the air clean of CO2." Attributes this phenomenon to well-tuned equipment, computer-managed water usage, and the ability of a "carbon sink" "[to clean and reduce] the CO2 created from working with equipment or using electricity." Details CO2 usage at the Ladies Golf Club in Thornhill, Ontario, noting that "the fuel used to produce electricity in Ontario is a combination of nuclear, natural gas, and coal." Recommends "the elimination of backlapping, changing holes less frequently, increased use of triplex mowers, the use of walk-behind mowers for the cleanup pass, [and] reductions in the frequency of bunker raking" as potential ways to reduce or eliminate a golf course's environmental footprint. Briefly discusses a study conducted by the Turfgrass Science and Management department of Colorado State University that found "4000 square meters of healthy turfgrass can utilize or sequester up to 365kg [kilograms] of carbon per year."
