| Abstract/Contents: | "Tolerance to glyphosate, defined by ED50 values (the amount of herbicide estimated to kill 50% of seedlings), was determined for 20 fine-leaved Festuca varieties. Two varieties, Manoir (slender creeping red fescue, F. rubra ssp. litoralis) and Waldina (hard fescue, F. longifolia) were subjected to four cycles of recurrent selection for tolerance to glyphosate. In another experiment a comparative assessment of the various generation of selection was carried out and it was found that a significant increase in resistance had occurred with each cycle of selection. The production of glyphosate tolerant varieties should provide an effective system for selective removal of weed grasses such as annual meadow grass (Poa annua) from fescue turf and seed production fields." |
