Abstract/Contents: | Details the growth of tillers after seed germination and details the tillering process. Explains that "tiller production is controlled by the internal mechanism of a plant, and this varies enourmously from one species to another." Recommends managing tillers appropriately so as to positively influence their development, indicating that tillers can be stimulated "to active growth by cutting, raking, and fertilizer treatment." Concludes that dense turf requires "abundant tiller formation [which] is dependent entirely upon the tillering capacity of the grasses in the turf." |
