Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the controversy in choosing the appropriate fertilize treatment and attempts to disprove the belief that healthy turf can be "maintained by estimating the amount of nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash contained in grass clippings and applying sufficient fertilisers to make good for the loss of the nutrients from the soil." Indicates that knowledge on clippings is important in regards to "the actual amount or yield of clippings" because it affects turf density. Briefly discusses the relationship between persistency and yield in relation to turf growth and management. Details the process of grass growth during each season. Recommends that a fertilizer program be designed "so that growth is not stimulated unduly at any time." Concludes that "the design of fertilizer treatment is as much a function of time as the chemical composition of the mixture." |
