Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the treatment and conditions of bowling greens during the autumn season. Presents the possibility of moss invasion which "may be associated with a lack of fibre." Recommends that when considering whether returfing is needed "one must be guided by the actual grasses compromising the turf and growing in association with the moss." Indicates that in certain cases when the turf cannot be improved in situ [in place] re-laying may be the only solution and adds that "under these circumstances most clubs purchase sea-washed turf." Addresses the lack of consideration given to the turf when constructing bowling greens. Concludes that "planning a green...requires much careful thought. Each turf...should conform to specified standards." |
