Abstract/Contents:Addresses "free from ergot" labels on seeds, questioning its accuracy. Explains the possible flaw in the system of labeling as the presence of ergot may not be detected when "tested at the Official Seed Testing Station." Continues by proposing the possibility "that the Authority accepts the tender, draws samples at the time of mixing, sends these for test and Cambridge finds, say, one grain of ergot." Adds by suggesting that the Tenderer then "runs the risk of having left on his hands a quantity of seeds mixed to a special prescription and upon which he is likely to make a heavy loss." Recommends that the ergot free labels no longer be employed as they may not be completely guaranteed.
