Abstract/Contents: | Briefly discusses the establishment of turf on poor soils, indicating that "it is often necessary to produce high quality turf on heavy loams and clays." Suggests that "apart from the fact that they produce lush growth, the preparation of a satisfactory tilth is difficult to obtain." Recommends that heavy clay soil not be cultivated "until it has attained a certain degree of dryness otherwise the soil will revert to brick-like clods that cannot be disintegrated." Presents the Kelmarsh Hall in Northampton, United Kingdom as "evidence...that if care is given to these matters a successful seed bed can be obtained." |
