Abstract/Contents:Addresses the possible problem of financing the renovation of fairways, suggesting that often "provisional estimates are carefully scrutinised [scrutinized] but the proposed scheme is usually left in abeyance and the fairways allowed to become steadily worse." Discusses the treatment methods needed to restore turf health, recommending mechanical treatment after fertilization and seeding if there is significant weed infestation. Profiles harrowing as a treatment method, indicating that it has "been neglected for many years." Explains that new innovations have been designed to "cut through and open up the turf even more efficiently than ordinary straight tine harrows." Indicates that after mechanical treatment has been completed liming may be applied before fertilization, warning against its misuse. Suggests that fertilization may then be applied, detailing a set of steps to be taken. Addresses that seeding may then be applied if financial support can be provided. Concludes that "there are many fairways in the country to-day [today], which could be improved if well thought out schemes of management were put into operation."
