Abstract/Contents: | Briefly features Kentish indigenous ryegrass as "the first indigenous grass to become a commercial commodity." Provides a brief history of the species, explaining that as its demand rose, its quality decreased. Suggests that the decrease in quality is a result of the seed being "harvested from younger fields, and, worse still, the practice of 'once-growing' became general." Provides a caution from the Welsh Plant Breeding Station bulletin which "emphasises the need for great caution when purchasing grass seed." |
