Abstract/Contents:Discusses the change in quality of a golf course, "attributing the change in character of the greens to the use of water from afar off." Indicates that the "course is laid out almost entirely on sand," adding that the maintenance procedure used to be that "no water was laid on and in the long and frequent periods of drought, the greens dried out and appeared to be dead." Explains that "the herbage did retain its fescue character and recovery was rapid when the rains resumed their beneficence." Details that there has been an "introduction of a water supply from the moors, some 25 miles away, [and] the Greenkeeper has a perpetual fight with Poa Annua and weeds of all sorts." Provides personal suggestions for the maintenance methods and suggests "the resting of half of each green and the application of...compost as is available to the rested part," adding that seaweed may be applied to the compost. Requests the opinion of the bulletin to the treatment plan.
