Abstract/Contents:Addresses the question of "whether weeds indienous to sea-washed turf die out when such turf is removed to inland situations," indicating that "the groundsman must be prepared to find these weeds persisting in his green ling after it has been laid with turf containing these species." Discusses the invasion of weeds once the turf has been laid, suggesting this to be a frequent occurrence and adding that the weeds may often be "of inland origin." Provides a brief description of commonly found species in sea-washed turf after it has been laid inland, indicating these species to be cocksfoot, smooth-stalked meadow grass, mouse-ear chickweed, and white clover. Details the severity of weed invasion, adding that "seamarsh turf is notoriously sparse when laid and unless steps are taken to improve its density forthwith, weeds must inevitably spread and ultimately colonize large areas of the green." Provides recommendations on how to eradicate the weeds depending on whether they are inland or seamarsh weeds. Concludes that "constant vigilance born of deep conviction that weed invasion is an ever present menace, is the key to bowling green management."
