Abstract/Contents:Discusses how to use the information acquired from a soil test, stating that this information "should be used as a foundation for program development." Suggests that "the most basic requirement of proper turf management is maintaining optimum soil fertility," adding that "understanding soil test results gives the turf manager the basic information necessary to establish a yearly fertility program." Explains that the test should indicate the "soil acidity, nutrient levels, salt concentration, and organic content" and mentions how the lab report will be presented. Indicates the role of nitrogen in maintaining turf health after the other nutrient levels have been corrected. Stresses the importance of taking the existing organic content of a soil into consideration during establishment, stating that "if there is enough organic matter available in the soil for turf establishment, there is typically enough for maintenance of the turf." Addresses the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), explaining that it "is a measure of the soil's ability to hold cation nutrients" and indicates how it can be used to describe the soil's properties. States that "determining and maintaining optimum fertility levels in the soil is only the start of providing a healthy environment for turf development."
