Abstract/Contents:Discusses the use of nitrogen on athletic fields, addressing "how the different nitrogen sources react in the soil and how the turf responds to their use." Describes various forms of nitrogen, stating that "an understanding of the release characteristics of different nitrogen sources is essential in formulating a fertility program." Suggests that when designing a fertility program, priorities may be to conduct a soil test and developing "a plan to bring both potassium and phosphorus to optimum levels." Indicates various options for raising the potassium and phosphorus levels, adding that "the seriousness of the individual nutrient deficiencies will sometimes determine...[the] individual fertility strategy."
